After two employees of the Israeli embassy were shot out of the Jewish capital museum, questions were being asked on Thursday about whether there was enough security at the event on Wednesday with Wednesday.
It is not clear if the museum provided the type of security with which experts ABC News talked about the routine, especially with the assistance of diplomats and officials.
The head of the Metropolitan Police Department, Pamela A. Smith, confirmed during a press conference on Thursday afternoon that there were private security officers who worked at the event, but said that neither MPD officers inside or out of service were there.
“We are working to reopen the museum in the next few days, with all the necessary security, so we can tell the story of Jewish Washington for thousands of visitors around the world,” said the executive director of the Jewish Museum of Capital, Beatrice Gurwitz.
The former deputy secretary of National Interim Security of Intelligence and Analysis, John Cohen, an ABC news collaborator, said that despite the fact that Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim’s shooting occurred near the Washington FBI field office, “that should not be confused as greater security.”
“What this situation illustrates is that we are in a period of greater threat, part of that threat is aimed at the Jewish community, and that the facilities associated with the Jewish community, the communities based on the faith must have established security measures to protect those people who visit those locations, either for educational services or activities or special events, such as the one that happened the night,” he said.

Speaking to journalists outside the Jewish Capital Museum on Thursday morning, Attorney General Pam Bondi acknowledged that he did not know the security position of the event before the shooting occurred.
But when ABC News asked him if there had been a “security failure” given the proximity of the FBI Washington Field Office, Bondi denied any security period.
“I don’t think anyone would have expected what happened last night,” Bondi said. “They were in an event, a beautiful event. The people were: it was an elegant event. They were dressed, they were all together and simply celebrating.
“But no, I think the police were on the scene immediately for that, and the great men and women of the FBI are doing incredible job, as well as the Metropolitan Police,” he added. “Our [Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives] The agents were here. Our American bailiffs were here working hand in hand with the mayor and the police chief, whom I cannot say enough at this time. “

The former special agent in charge Derek Meyer, from the Chicago Campo Office of the Secret Service, said that “private entities with internal security operations often complement their existing position with additional security during special events or when they find a specific threat or concerns.”
“Those without existing security will generally hire security or application of the law outside of service for important events, vacations, in times of civil disturbances and when they find out about a direct threat,” he added.
“Usually, agents of the law outside of service operate under the license of a private security company, subject to specific regional statutes and regulations,” said Meyer. “In this capacity, these officers are empowered to detain the people they observe directly commit crimes or if they have reasonable motifs to believe that a crime has occurred. After the detention, the custody of the people is quickly transferred to the application of the law in service upon arrival.”
The mayor of Washington, Muriel Bowser, said that the event did not fall in the category of “special events” of the city where the local and federal police would have a “defective position.”
“This was a relatively small event in a museum, so MPD or government agencies would not resist additional resources unless they were requested or less than we received a call for service,” Bowser said. However, he pointed out that the local and federal government has subsidy programs that “have helped institutions, institutions of faith and others that have been concerned about violence, anti -Semitism or other discourse and hateful rhetoric.”
“And we have recently issued subsidies and have issued subsidies in recent years to these institutions to harden their security, cameras and additional security, and I think the museum has done some of those things,” he added.
Bondi said officials believe that the suspect acted alone and that the investigation is ongoing.
“I saw the body of a young man who took, who was about to commit. He had a lifetime in front of him, and that was taken,” he said. “Hate has to stop and now it has to stop. This person will be processed to the maximum extension of the law.”

Security has now increased in the area to ensure that Israeli’s embassy and ambassador are safe, as well as in Jewish sites throughout the country, said the attorney general, added that he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday night.
“I broke my heart talking to Bibi last night. I was devastated and I assured him that we were investigating this,” Bondi said. “I also talked to President Trump several times, who was disconsolate and devastated by this.”
“This is a day when we all need to join, regardless of the religion we are,” Bondi emphasized. “And you know, the Muslim religion actually contacted our rabbis and offered condolences and sent a beautiful message that they showed me, and that is what should be happening.”
In a call with journalists, representatives of the main Jewish communal organizations requested more government financing and security support for Jewish institutions following the shooting on Wednesday night outside the Jewish Capital Museum.

Cohen said that faith -based communities should “remain aware of the current threat.”
“Good intelligence is the key,” he added. “If we want to prevent this type of violent acts, we have to do a better job recognizing and evaluating the online and physical warning signals that are almost always exhibited by those who prepare to carry out an act of specific violence.”
The researchers are reviewing the writings published in X and attributed to the alleged shooter Elias Rodríguez, 30, including a writing of 980 words entitled “Scale for Gaza, brings war home”, which seem to require violence against the Israelis. Rodríguez shouted, “free and free freein of free”, since he was arrested after the shooting, but it is not clear if the suspect was previously known to the officials.
“The FBI is aware of certain writings supposedly written by the suspect, and we hope to have updates about authenticity very soon,” the FBI deputy director, Dan Bongino
The researchers said they believe that the writings are probably legitimate, but that they are a key piece of research at this time that they are working to confirm. In “Scale for Gaza, bring war home”, the author went to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and suggests that the last number of deaths has been underestimated. Citing a so -called change in the tide of public opinion towards Gaza in recent weeks, the author seemed to regret the inaction of the United States government and said he has criminalized the protest.
The author, who seemed to praise the “sacrifice” made by Aaron Bushnell, who in February 2024 self -inmolored in front of the Israeli embassy in Washington, DC, and at the attempt to drown the former Secretary of Defense Robert Mcnamara for his role in the Vietnam War, then suggested that many Americans would judge those actions as “healthy.” The author signed by sending love to his family and “Free Palestine”.
