The rite of the coffin closed at 8 pm local time on Friday in the Basilica of San Pedro in Rome, authorities said. During the rite, Cardinal Kevin Farrell, interim manager of the Vatican until a new Pope is chosen, read the writing, which was then placed in the coffin at the end of the ceremony.
